April 27, 2002 - Paul Harris, O.D., FCOVD spoke on a radio talk show in St. Louis.

Paul Harris, O.D., FCOVD spoke on a St. Louis radio talk show on 97.1 FM Talk, which was also on an internet broadcast. The show is linked to the Well Journal.

Fellows of the College of Optometrists in Vision Development approved as providers of Early Intervention Services.

Rob Fox, O.D., FCOVD writes, “In New York optometrists who have FCOVD certification have just been approved as providers of Early Intervention (EI) services. EI provides health care and other services for children 3 and younger that have developmental delays or disabilities. Until now only optometrists that were certified in Low Vision had been approved providers. Being *certified* in the area of vision development was a key part of getting optometrists into this program. I hope this becomes a motivating factor in more COVD associates choosing to become fellows.”

Thursday, March 7, 2002 - Clayton Gushiken, O.D., FCOVD interview aired on NBC Hawaii.

Dr. Gushiken writes,"On the 5 o'clock news today, a local TV station (NBC Hawaii) aired an interview that they did with me last week. A young adult explained how our vision therapy eliminated his double vision and general body fatigue. The reporter used some national footage of PAVE President Marjie Thompson and even a short blurb of an MD saying VT doesn't work. But the segment ended on a positive note of how VT made a difference for this young adult.”

Wednesday, February 20, 2002 - Dru Grant, O.D., FCOVD, was highlighted on the local evening news in Cleveland, Ohio.

The story was Vision Therapy May Help Students Get Better Grades. Click on the following link to read the article: www.newsnet5.com or contact the COVD office if you’d like a copy.

On Thursday, January 31, 2002 - Digivent: Learning Problems - The Vision Connection

The diagnosis of Learning Disabilities and Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity Disorders have become commonplace in today's school children. But, how often are these conditions misdiagnosed? How many of these children, who appear inattentive and who struggle to learn, suffer from undiagnosed and untreated visual problems?

If you missed the Digivent, click here to watch the archived seminar (will be available by February 8, 2002).

The program was designed to educate parents, teachers, school nurses and those health care providers who are on the front line of identifying such disorders. Sponsored by Bausch & Lomb, the preeminent global technology-based healthcare company for the eye, this interactive online seminar originally aired live and features leading experts in the field of vision and learning…especially as it relates to children and the impact of vision on their future success. The eventcast program incorporates streaming video, text and graphic slides and two-way messaging and polling during the live event.

The 75-minute seminar explores the state of knowledge concerning the vision-learning link and provides valuable tips for people interested in or affected by this important issue. Participants in the live event were able to ask questions and provide their perspectives about how the vision-learning connection affects their lives. The on-demand archive features a transcript of the Q&A messages and the presenters responses to audience questions.

Over 700 people registered for the event. Many thanks go to Melissa May for her dedication to bring this to a reality. The benefit of this program will be long term. We need to continue to promote the availability of the program. Let other parents, teachers, psychologists, optometrists, tutors and physicians know about the Digevent site.

Please send e-mails and cards of thanks to Melissa May, Drs. Getz, Hillier, Ryan, Hohendorf, May, Fortenbacher, Miller, Bescoby, Ms. Marjie Thompson , Joyce Inyoue and B& L for funding this.

January 30, 2002, Dr. Steve Miller of St. Louis was on ABC news.

The story was on the over prescribing of eyeglasses for infants (the ophthalmologist's opinion). But it moved into a brief mention of preschool mandatory eye exam issues (Dr. Miller’s comments).

The next day, January 31, 2002, at noon the local St. Louis NBC affiliate station aired the interview Dr. Miller did in November on Vision Therapy.

A Vision Therapy segment with Lisa Manzo will air in St. Louis on Monday, January 25, 2002.

This segment will be aired at 5 pm on Channel 4. Its focus is on children and learning disabilities.

Janet M. Wilamowski, OD of Pennsylvania was interviewed by CN8 regarding vision therapy.

The local PAVE president and VT parents and patients were also included in their two hour filming! It will air January 28th during the 7PM and 10PM news on CN8 Philadelphia which is a local cable affiliate of CNBC, NBC, and MSNBC.
